        "content": "<p>13 convicted for roles in riots<\/p>\n<p>MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara (JP): A court here sentenced 13<br>\npeople to between one and four months in jail for involvement in<br>\nlast month's riots on Lombok island.<\/p>\n<p>After a five-hour trial here on Saturday all were convicted to<br>\na month in jail for looting during the riots. They were found to<br>\nbe in violation of Article 363 of the Criminal Code on violent<br>\nrobbery.<\/p>\n<p>Two received additional three-month sentences due to their<br>\nprior criminal records.<\/p>\n<p>Antara reported that the prosecutors had demanded a two to<br>\nthree month jail sentence for each defendant.<\/p>\n<p>Another defendant is due to be sentenced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>One of the presiding judges, Mariyun, said that while the 13<br>\nconvicted were clearly guilty of looting, their actions were<br>\npurely spontaneous and not premeditated.<\/p>\n<p>They thus cannot be regarded as provocateurs of the three days<br>\nof rioting, he said.
