        "content": "<p>12 pickpockets nabbed on buses<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Police announced yesterday that they captured 12<br>\npickpockets operating aboard public buses during an anti-<br>\npickpocket operation conducted over the past several days.<\/p>\n<p>The operation code named Jabus, or crime aboard public buses,<br>\nwas launched by police last Thursday in response to the public's<br>\nconcern over pickpockets on public transit vehicles in the city,<br>\nespecially on wide-body and minibuses.<\/p>\n<p>Police received an average of six reports daily from<br>\npickpocket victims before the operation was launched, four of<br>\nwhich were by women, said Lt. Col. Latief Rabar, a spokesman for<br>\nCity Police.<\/p>\n<p>\"They usually operate during rush hours in the morning when<br>\npeople go to office, and in the afternoon when people return<br>\nhome. The suspects always operate in a team of three or four<br>\npeople,\" Latief said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>In a drive to combat the crime, police deployed several groups<br>\nof plainclothes detectives who pretended to be passengers on<br>\npublic buses plying the routes which were notoriously ridden with<br>\npickpockets.<\/p>\n<p>Police captured three thieves red-handed on the air-<br>\nconditioned RMB bus plying the Cililitan to Pulogadung route, two<br>\non the PPD regular bus plying the Kampung Melayu to Grogol route,<br>\nfour on the Mikrolet 12-seat minibus plying the Kebayoran Lama to<br>\nTanah Abang route, two on the Kopaja minibus plying the Kalideres<br>\nto Kota route and another one on the Kopami minibus plying the<br>\nKalideres to Senen route.<\/p>\n<p>The pickpockets, aged between 20 and 33, were identified as<br>\nYossi, Yati, Samito, Karso Siagian, Beni Mangunsong, Tribudi<br>\nLubis, Isnaedi, Adam, Aminuddin, Otto Bernard, Wisman, and Rudi<br>\nHartono.<\/p>\n<p>\"They are jobless and homeless,\" Latief said.<\/p>\n<p>Police confiscated some stolen articles from them, including<br>\nfour wallets, two wristwatches, three ID cards, one driver's<br>\nlicense, a golden necklace weighing 10 grams, Rp 24,000 (US$11.1)<br>\nin cash and two machetes.<\/p>\n<p>Latief said Operation Jabus would continue as long as the<br>\ncrime rate on buses remained high.<\/p>\n<p>City Police Chief Maj. Gen. Mochammad Hindarto had earlier<br>\nsaid that police would stage special operations from time to time<br>\nto fight against the crime.<\/p>\n<p>Hindarto said the police are asking the public to cooperate by<br>\nreporting every case to police.(jsk)<\/p>",
