JAKARTA \u2014 A 12-kilogram gas cylinder exploded at a house on Jalan\nTambora II, RT 01 RW 07, Kelurahan Tambora, Kecamatan Tambora, West\nJakarta, on Friday morning (22 May 2026). The blast caused extensive\ndamage to the dwelling and left five residents wounded.<\/p>\n
Tambora sub-district head Pangestu Aji confirmed the incident\noccurred around 06:00 local time. The explosion is believed to have been\ntriggered by a gas leak from a regulator that was not fitted\ntightly.<\/p>\n
\u2018Maybe the gas cylinder wasn\u2019t fitted tightly, perhaps it leaked. The\nincident occurred as the residents were about to cook, trying to light\nthe stove in the morning,\u2019 Pangestu told Kompas.com by phone on\nFriday.<\/p>\n
He added that the blast did not ignite a flame. \u2018Perhaps the gas\ninstallation wasn\u2019t properly fitted, so when lit, the gas spread and\nexploded. But it didn\u2019t start a fire; it was a gas explosion of a 12 kg\ncylinder,\u2019 he explained.<\/p>\n
The blast\u2019s intensity left much of the house severely damaged.\nInside, the interior was left in disarray, the roof collapsed, leaving\nthe light steel frame visible from below. Outside, the white metal fence\nand the foundation wall collapsed and tilted toward the street.<\/p>\n
As a result, five residents were injured.
