12 Africans arrested in Tanah Abang<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: A team of officers from the Central Jakarta municipal
\noffice, immigration office and police arrested 11 African men and
\none woman early Saturday morning in Tanah Abang area, Central
\nJakarta, for violating immigration permits.<\/p>\n
The men who were mainly from Nigeria and Cameroon, and the
\nwoman, a Somalian, were arrested after failing to show their
\ntravel documents, including their passports during the raids on
\nrented houses on Jl. Petamburan and in Kristal Hotel.<\/p>\n
One of the men was also accused of faking a wedding
\ncertificate to marry a local woman, said Yadi, an officer from
\nthe municipal office.<\/p>\n
Eight of the foreigners were later released after they managed
\nto show their documents, while the rest were detained at the
\nCentral Jakarta immigration office for further questioning. They
\nmay face deportation.<\/p>\n
Many Africans conduct business at Tanah Abang market, the
\nlargest textile market in Southeast Asia. But many of them are
\nbelieved to be conducting illegal business, including drug
