Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Government Communication Agency\n(Bakom) Muhammad Qodari said the 100 gigawatt peak (GWp) solar power\nplant (PLTS) programme is the government\u2019s step to build energy\nself-sufficiency while strengthening the national economy.<\/p>\n
Qodari said in his statement in Jakarta on Monday that the programme\nis projected to require investment of around Rp1,140 trillion and has\nthe potential to create around 5.52 million jobs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe start of the 100 Gigawatt Peak (GWp) solar power plant programme\nis not merely about setting a target. This is a concrete step to build a\nnew energy source that is stronger, more self-reliant, and more\nsustainable for Indonesia,\u201d Qodari said.<\/p>\n
He said the step began to be realised with the launch of the 100 GWp\nPLTS programme by President Prabowo Subianto on Tuesday (25\/8), which\nbegan with the construction of 14 solar power plants in six provinces\nwith a total capacity of 5.3 GWp.<\/p>\n
The programme launch was centred at the Gilimanuk Site PLTS, Jembrana\nRegency, Bali.<\/p>\n
Qodari explained that the 100 GWp PLTS programme is part of efforts\nto strengthen national energy security while reducing dependence on\nfossil energy.<\/p>\n
By harnessing Indonesia\u2019s solar energy potential, he said, national\nenergy needs are expected to be increasingly met from resources\navailable domestically.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, for the government, the shift towards clean energy is not\nonly about reducing emissions. More than that, the energy transition\nmust bring benefits that can be felt directly by the public and provide\nadded value for the national economy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) shows\nthe 100 GWp PLTS programme has the potential to save up to Rp73.9\ntrillion per year in budget, reduce emissions by around 140 million\ntonnes of CO2, and create around 5.52 million jobs.<\/p>\n
He said the use of solar energy will also be expanded to reach\nunderdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions, while supporting\nvarious productive community activities.<\/p>\n
According to Qodari, the investment requirement of around Rp1,140\ntrillion in developing the 100 GWp PLTS also opens opportunities for\ndomestic industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cNew needs will grow, new investment, new jobs, and ultimately, new\neconomic strength,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Qodari emphasised that the construction of the 100 GWp PLTS is part\nof the government\u2019s efforts to build energy self-sufficiency while\nstrengthening the national economy.<\/p>\n
He said the launch of the 100 GWp PLTS programme shows that the major\nstep in developing solar energy has begun to be realised by the\ngovernment.<\/p>\n
