10 students pass 'test of genius'<\/p>\n

Ten students out of 120 freshmen from 16 state high schools in
\nGreater Jakarta passed the first round of the selection process
\non Aug. 31 to find exceptional students for the newly established
\nDKI Super Class.<\/p>\n
All test participants were some of the 3,000 junior high
\nschool graduates who scored a perfect 10 in the final mathematics
\nexam.<\/p>\n

\nMustar said on Sunday that the ten students were qualified to be
\ninterviewed as candidates of the special class.<\/p>\n
"We held the interviews today (Sunday) and the results will be
\nannounced in few days ... some of them may not be in the class,"
\nhe told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
Besides Margani, another interviewer was Yohanes Surya, a
\nlong-time trainer of international Science Olympiad candidates
\nwho had won gold medals.<\/p>\n
The interview was aimed at exploring the students' personality
\nand capability in articulating their thoughts.<\/p>\n
"Although an IQ of 150 is one parameter, a cooperative
\npersonality, as well as communication ability, are other
\nqualifications that are also important in deciding which students
\nto sit in the super class," Margani added.<\/p>\n
The so-termed DKI Super Class -- DKI is the acronym for
\nJakarta -- was initially scheduled to start in late August.<\/p>\n
Co-founder Yohanes, who got the support of the city education
\nagency and PT BMW Indonesia, intends to collect exceptional
\nstudents who will get free education and the chance to be coached
\nas international Science Olympiad candidates.<\/p>\n
"I believe that if genius students have the opportunity to be
\ntrained equally to their competence, they will significantly
\ndevelop their academic capacity ... and may well give a
\nsubstantial contribution to Indonesian welfare and prosperity in
\nthe future," Yohanes said.<\/p>\n
The class will be conducted at State High School No. 3 in
\nSetiabudi, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Due to lack of information to schools and parents about the
\nprogram, only few students joined the first test, and the
\neducation agency was now trying to reach out to more participants
\nto fill the quota of 24 seats in the super class.<\/p>\n
"Another test will be held on Sept. 11 at the Pancasila
\nUniversity campus in Depok. Hopefully, more talented students will
\nattend the second round of the selection process," Margani said.<\/p>\n
The students will be asked to solve hundreds of problems to
\ntest their logical thinking, numerical and verbal capability as
\nwell as their level of concentration.<\/p>",
