        "content": "<p>A sinkhole caused by ground collapse has appeared in a field owned by\na resident in Banagung, Tileng, Girisubo, Gunungkidul. It is suspected\nto have been triggered by heavy rain, which caused the hole to grow\nlarger.<\/p>\n<p>Member of the Tileng Sub-District Disaster Alert Cadre (Tagana),\nNgatijan, stated that heavy rain initially struck Tileng on Wednesday (4\nMarch). Subsequently, the field owner, Paijan, discovered the hole while\npreparing to farm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt that time, the ground collapse was not yet large, with a width\nand depth of about two metres,\u201d he said when contacted by reporters on\nThursday (30 April 2025).<\/p>\n<p>Feeling that the sinkhole was not large, Paijan continued his farming\nactivities. However, over time, the hole grew larger, and Paijan\neventually reported it to Ngatijan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYesterday, the field owner reported it to me because the hole had\ngrown bigger, and this morning I checked it; the width is about 10\nmetres with a depth of around four metres,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Ngatijan mentioned that there are ground cracks around\nthe sinkhole. In fact, Ngatijan assessed these cracks as quite long.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are ground cracks around the collapsed area, and they could\npotentially collapse as well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, Ngatijan installed barriers around the sinkhole. The\npurpose, Ngatijan continued, is to serve as a marker and prevent the\npublic from approaching the site where the sinkhole appeared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo anticipate the hole widening further, this morning I put up\nbarriers using cassava stems around the hole,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of the\nGunungkidul BPBD, Edy Winarta, said he was aware of the sinkhole\u2019s\nappearance in Tileng. Edy stated that personnel are currently heading to\nthe location to conduct an assessment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor future handling, we usually collaborate with universities to\ncoordinate and check the field,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Edy mentioned that personnel and university parties will\nconduct research at the sinkhole site. The research is to determine the\ncause of the sinkhole\u2019s appearance and recommendations for its\nmitigation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe research is to find out what caused it.
