10 km road badly damaged<\/p>\n
BEKASI (JP): A 10-kilometer road connecting Serang subdistrict
\nand Cibarusah subdistrict near here is badly damaged, completely
\nparalyzing land transportation in the area.<\/p>\n
According to several local people, the road has been neglected
\nfor about five years which is why it is presently in such a poor
\ncondition.<\/p>\n
\"Five years ago the road was well asphalted using the hotmix
\nmethod, but now it is dilapidated and full of big potholes. It is
\npractically impassable,\" one local resident told The Jakarta Post
\nover the weekend.<\/p>\n
He said because of the condition of the road the prices of
\nbasic commodities have soared beyond the buying power of the
\nresidents of Cibarusah and surrounding districts.<\/p>\n
\"The road turns into a huge muddy, swampy lake when rain
\nfalls,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The people generally blamed the situation on overloaded big
\ntrucks carrying tons of sand from a sand quarrying site managed
\nby four companies. \"The companies are the most responsible
\nparties for the damaged road,\" they said.<\/p>\n
The people urged the local office of the public works ministry
\nto immediately rectify the situation by improving the condition
