        "content": "<p>10 governors, 5 ministers' wives and Tutut awarded<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Siti Hardiyanti Hastuti Indra Rukmana, daughter<br>\nof President Soeharto, along with 10 governors and the wives of<br>\nfive cabinet ministers were among 35 recipients of this year's<br>\nMahaputra medal, the nation's second highest award.<\/p>\n<p>President Soeharto presented the distinguished award yesterday<br>\nin a ceremony at the State Palace.<\/p>\n<p>Hardiyanti, fondly known as Tutut, received the Mahaputera<br>\nNararya medal for her social work as chairwoman of the Indonesian<br>\nSocial Workers Association and chief of the Indonesian Red Cross.<\/p>\n<p>The Mahaputra is the second most prestigious medal after the<br>\nBintang Republik Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The Mahaputra is divided into five classes: Adipurna,<br>\nAdipradana, Utama, Pratama and Nararya.<\/p>\n<p>The medals are given out each year in conjunction with Aug. 17<br>\nindependence celebrations<\/p>\n<p>Tutut received yesterday the Mahaputra Pratama along with East<br>\nJava Governor Basofi Sudirman, Central Java Governor Soewardi,<br>\nand North Sulawesi Governor E.E. Mangindaan.<\/p>\n<p>The highest distinction presented yesterday was the Mahaputra<br>\nAdipradana to Lt. Gen. (ret.) Ashari Danudirdjo, a former<br>\nminister of light industry in the late 1960s.<\/p>\n<p>Seven other governors -- Bali's Ida Bagus Oke, Lampung's<br>\nPoedjono Pranyoto, Riau's Soeripto, Jambi's Abdurrahman Sayoeti,<br>\nEast Kalimantan's M. Ardans, West Nusa Tenggara's Warsito and<br>\nSouth Sumatra's Ramli Hasan Basri -- were awarded the Mahaputra<br>\nUtama.<\/p>\n<p>Also receiving the Mahaputra Utama were wives of five cabinet<br>\nministers: Fauzia Saleh Afiff, wife of the coordinating minister<br>\nfor economy and finance; Hartini Hartarto, wife of the<br>\ncoordinating minister for production and distribution; Marijati<br>\nMoerdiono, wife of the minister\/state secretary; Yultin Harlotina<br>\nGinandjar Kartasasmita, wife of the state minister of national<br>\ndevelopment planning; and Romadhiyati Harmoko, wife of the state<br>\nminister of special assignments<\/p>\n<p>There was no speech at yesterday's brief but solemn event.<\/p>\n<p>Tutut, a 48-year-old mother of four, is a renowned and<br>\nsuccessful businesswoman and is deputy chief of the dominant<br>\nGolkar faction.<\/p>\n<p>Her widely diversified business covers toll road construction,<br>\nbanking, pulp and heavy industries, trading, engineering, TV and<br>\nradio stations, and oil palm plantations.<\/p>\n<p>Her work has also been felt in the field of diplomacy as head<br>\nof the Portugal-Indonesia Friendship Association.<\/p>\n<p>\"I am very moved by this award,\" said Tutut drabbed in a<br>\nscarf, a trademark often identified with her since she performed<br>\nthe haj pilgrimage in 1990.<\/p>\n<p>The eldest of Soeharto's six children, she has been seen by<br>\nher father's side more often since the death of her mother, Siti<br>\nHartinah, in April last year.<\/p>\n<p>She has recently been touted as a possible vice presidential<br>\ncandidate. Golkar secretary-general Ary Mardjono hinted in April<br>\nthat Golkar might nominate Tutut.<\/p>\n<p>Also among recipients of the Mahaputra were economist<br>\nMubyarto, National Atomic Agency director general H.M. Iyos<br>\nRosadi Subki, Supreme Advisory Council member G.M. Tampubolon,<br>\nhead of the Institute for State Personnel Administration<br>\nSoenarko, and head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences Sufyan<br>\nTsauri. (prb)<\/p>",
