10 firework-maker families sought<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Tangerang police are searching for the
\nwhereabouts of 10 families who were missing when police raided
\ntheir residences at Kampung Malang Nengah, Legok.<\/p>\n
The residential raid was carried out as part of a police
\ninvestigation into the growing number of fireworks found in
\nlocal markets, City Police spokesman Lt. Col. Bambang Haryoko
\ntold reporters here yesterday.<\/p>\n
"During the neighborhood raid at 5 p.m. Saturday, the police
\nonly found two suspects at the scene," Bambang reported.<\/p>\n
During the raid, the police seized 50 kilograms of various
\ntypes of fireworks along with raw materials weighing 500
\nkilograms and worth millions of rupiah on the pyro-hungry streets
\nof Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Bambang said the other family members might have been informed
\nabout the raid beforehand.<\/p>\n
"So far, we have no valuable information as to their places of
\nhiding," the spokesman added.<\/p>\n
Two suspects already in the custody of Tangerang police have
\nbeen identified as Arsani and the second, a woman, named
\nMaimunah.<\/p>\n
The unlicensed sale and use of fireworks are prohibited by the
\ngovernment though many, particularly youngsters, cannot be
\nstopped from purchasing and igniting fireworks during certain
\ncelebrations, such as New Year's Eve, less than a week away.<\/p>\n
"The raid against the illegal makers of fireworks, a home
\nindustry for many local Tangerang residents, was carried out in
\nline with the police's intention to make safe the New Year Eve's
\ncelebration in the greater Jakarta area," Bambang said. (bsr)<\/p>",
