        "content": "<p>JAKARTA - A total of 1,908 schools in Sumatra remain unrenovated\nfollowing disasters, despite the government having initiated\nrehabilitation programmes for thousands of other affected schools.<\/p>\n<p>Home Affairs Minister and Chair of the Sumatra Disaster\nRehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force (Satgas), Tito\nKarnavian, stated that a total of 4,992 schools were affected by\ndisasters in Sumatra. \u201cCorrect, 4,992 schools were affected. The\nMinistry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has signed\ncooperation agreements for the renovation and rehabilitation of\napproximately 3,084 schools,\u201d Tito said during a press conference at the\nParliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (25\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>However, Tito stressed that the remaining schools will still be\nhandled by the government through further cooperation with\nKemendikdasmen. \u201cThere are still around a thousand or so remaining.\nThose are not being ignored. Kemendikdasmen will enter into further\ncooperation for their construction plans,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Tito explained that Kemendikdasmen has so far allocated nearly Rp 2\ntrillion for the renovation and rehabilitation of disaster-affected\nschools. \u201cThe Kemendikdasmen has already disbursed nearly Rp 2 trillion.\nA further Rp 1.8 to 1.9 trillion remains,\u201d Tito said.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, additional budget for continuing school renovations\nwill be allocated after approval from the House of Representatives and\nthe government. \u201cWith approval from the House of Representatives and the\ngovernment, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa will be able to\nallocate the funds, including for the remaining thousand or so schools,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>",
