Wrong man arrested for murder

PALU, Central Sulawesi: Fredy, a resident of Silanca subdistrict, Lage district in Poso regency was arrested on Monday by a joint team from the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the police.

The team was scouring the forest surrounding the village after a tip-off from local residents that a suspected rapist and murderer of a Muslim resident of Poso in 2002 was in the area.

Head of the Sintuwu Maroso Operation task force, Sr. Comr. Tatang Somantri, told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday, based on the report, security personnel immediately combed the area and found Fredy on a resident's farm.

However, the wrong man was arrested as the wanted man was named Fendy, not Fredy. -- JP
