No party wants me: Solahuddin

JAKARTA: Deputy chairman of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) Solahuddin Wahid said on Wednesday that no political party had officially offered him a chance to be their vice presidential candidate in the July election.

He also said that he had told the National Awakening Party not to pair its presidential or vice presidential candidates with former military officers.

Students and victims of violence involving the Indonesia Military (TNI) had asked him not to become a running mate for any presidential candidates with a military background.

Two retired Army generals, Wiranto and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, are eying the presidential post in the July 5 election. --JP
