Military to send 400 soldiers to Poso

MANADO, North Sulawesi: The provincial military command here will soon send some 400 reinforcement troops to help improve security in the violence-torn regency of Poso, Central Sulawesi, a senior officer said on Wednesday.

North Sulawesi military chief Col. Darpito did not say when the troops would leave for Poso, which has seen sporadic attacks blamed on unidentified gunmen.

He said he had no plans to send troop reinforcements to Ambon, Maluku province, where dozens of people were killed in five days of renewed sectarian fighting since Sunday. --Antara
