Message from the Ambassador

Today, the Philippines celebrates the 103rd anniversary of the proclamation of its independence.

It is an occasion for every Filipino to look back with pride on our past.

For in struggles against colonizers and foreign aggressors, in the fight against tyranny and injustice at home, in face of periods of great trial and uncertainty, Filipinos have eventually emerged triumphant. Our love for freedom and democracy has ensured this.

As we enter a new chapter in our history, however, it is important that we go beyond mere remembrance of past glories.

History has shown us that Filipinos are capable of doing great and wonderful deeds. In an atmosphere of national reconciliation based on justice, we can transform our society into one that is better able to respond to the needs of our countrymen.

We have the ability to create a society that genuinely nurtures integrity, unity and dynamism.

Our vision must be coupled with commitment.

Dr. Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio and other heroes of the Philippine Revolution have taught us to lead a life of commitment to country.

They willingly gave up all they held dear, even life itself, to bequeath to their countrymen the gift of freedom and the right to chart their own destiny. They have taught us the value of self-sacrifice and service to the nation.

On the anniversary of the independence, which our heroes so courageously fought for, it is only fitting that I acknowledge the commitment shown by the Filipino community in Indonesia in uplifting the lives of their families, and in giving their best to earn the respect of colleagues and friends in this country.

With their industry, competence and enthusiasm, Filipinos in Indonesia are truly a source of pride and satisfaction. Their commitment and support are invaluable now more than ever.

The commemoration of Philippine independence is also an opportunity to honor friendships.

Today, we wish to pay tribute to the bonds of friendship and brotherhood between Filipinos and Indonesians, which took root centuries ago.

We take pride in the fact that relations between the Philippines and Indonesia continue to grow stronger. Most important of all, we affirm our wholehearted support for Indonesia, as both our countries continue to work toward peace, progress and prosperity for our peoples.

Mabuhay ang Pilipino! Mabuhay ang Kalayaan!
