Law on teachers needed: Amien

SEMARANG, Central Java: Presidential hopeful Amien Rais said on Wednesday that Indonesia should have a teacher's law to help boost their performance.

"One of the factors affecting teachers' professionalism is their welfare, which can be in the form of remuneration, security, work environment, personal relationships and their careers," Amien, who is also chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), said during a seminar on education in Semarang, Central Java on Wednesday.

Amien also handed over four checks worth Rp 100 million (US$11,764) to the rector of IKIP Semarang to help with renovations on the campus. --Antara
