Lake level drops as farmers plant crops

BOGOR: The lake level in a popular resort area in Cijeruk village, Cijeruk, is decreasing because residents had converted the area into paddy fields during the past four years, Lido Lake Resort general manager Irmansjah Madewa said on Tuesday.

"We have tried to tell the residents not to (cultivate the land) and the local administration is also paying no attention to this matter," Irmansjah said.

To help restore the conditions of the lake, a popular tourist destination in Bogor, the resort management and locals have planted at least 300 trees around the lake and cleaned up garbage in the area.

The event was held in conjunction with the World Earth Day, on April 22. -- JP
