Human excrement polluting RI

SANUR, Bali: Almost all rivers and land in Indonesia were contaminated with industrial and domestic waste as well as human excrement an expert said during a national seminar on public sanitation on Wednesday.

Basah Hernowo of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) said that people disposed of their fecal matter on the ground and in rivers because it was their custom. "This habit is hard to change," he said.

Another reason could be economic since proper toilets were expensive to set up and maintain, Hernowo said. -- Antara
