House rejects Ciracas port

JAKARTA: The House of Representatives (DPR) has rejected a government plan to move the special compound for returning migrant workers from the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Ciracas in East Jakarta, saying that it was not cost- nor time- efficient.

Deputy House Speaker Muhaimin Iskandar said on Wednesday that moving the so-called TKI terminal to Ciracas would only open the door to more extortion.

Minister for Manpower and Transmigration Jacob Nuwa Wea had proposed to move of the TKI terminal to Ciracas due to rampant extortion at the Terminal III.

Muhaimin also urged the House to deliberate on the bill on migrant workers protection in order to protect workers both here and overseas. --Antara
