Ex-councillors quizzed over graft case

PADANG, West Sumatra: Two convicted councillors were questioned on Wednesday over Rp 6.4 billion (US$680,851) allegedly embezzled by West Sumatra Governor Zainal Bakar.

The two councillors in question were Arwan Kasri, the former chairman of the West Sumatra Legislative Council and Marfendi, a former councillor of the same council.

The councillors were sentenced to 27 and 24 months in prison respectively, but still walked free pending an appeal with the Supreme Court. Emerging from the questioning session on Wednesday at the West Sumatra Prosecutor's Office, both former councillors were tightlipped over the substance of the questioning. -- JP
