Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Motorcycle maker PT Yamaha Motor Kencana Indonesia (YMKI) said its domestic sales in the first nine months of 2007 rose 29 percent to 1.5 million units compared to the same period last year.
"Yamaha motorcycle sales exceeded the average motorcycle sales growth rate in Indonesia which stood at 9 percent," PT YMKI President Director Dyonisius Beti said here Monday.
The increase in demand for Yamaha motorcycles outstripped the company`s production capacity so that it was unable to meet all of the market demand, he said.
YMKI General Manager for Promotion Bambang Asmara Budi said the company;s share in the domstic motorcycle market in the January-Septemebr 2007 period was 41 percent.
This compared to 28 percent a year earlier, he said.
Yamaha sales hit a record high of 190,000 units in September 2007, outstripping its monthly production of 160,000 units, he said.
"The 30,000 units came from our stocks," he added.
To date, Yamaha has an annual production capacity of 1.8 million units. The figure will be raised to 2 million or 2.1 million to meet rising demand. (*)
