West Nusa Tenggara is preparing to develop its seaweed and corn production and its cattle industry after the central government appointed the province one of the centers for the nation’s food production.

“We're currently focusing on the production of corn, besides [seaweed and cattle],” West Nusa Tenggara Deputy Governor Badrul Munir said Thursday.

He said that besides supporting the central government's food resilience policy, the program was expected to help reduce unemployment in West Nusa Tenggara. The unemployment rate in the province is currently at five percent of its total workforce.

Badrul said the province was trying to accelerate its infrastructure development, which includes the construction of an international airport, ports and roads to support their industries
