Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono said the results of many research projects in Indonesia did not match what the public needed.

Speaking at Small Business and Entrepreneurship Innovation Conference at Nusantara Multimedia University (UMN) in Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday, the vice president said the results of many research projects did not meet what the people really needed in various fields.

"What I have discussed with the research and technology minister is a disconnect between the results of research work and the demands of the people, and this happens in various fields," the vice president said.

He added that all institutions engaged in research were so far busily documenting the results of their research but "those results will be useless if they do not match with what the people need."

The conference is being co-organized by the Center of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Leadership (CIEL) and the Bandung Institute of Technology`s School of Business Management (SBM-ITB) in cooperation with UMN.

EIEL SBM-ITB chairman Dwi Larso said the conference was in relation with creation and knowledge propagation to support the development of innovation, entrepreneurship, and small business.

Present at the conference were among others Research and Technology Minister Suharna Surapranata, Banten Governor Atut Chosiyah, ITB Rector Prof Akhmaloka and UMN Rector Yohannes Surya.

On the occasion Dwi Larso said the number of entrepreneurs in Indonesia was very small but that of micro business unit was so great. Therefore, such a conference was organized for hundreds of researchers to present the the results of their scientific work.

He said the idea to organize the conference was based on two phenomena in Indonesia.

The first phenomenon was that the number of entrepreneurs in Indonesia is very small, and the second that the number of micro business units was so great.

"There are 45 million micro business units in Indonesia with only 300,000 to 400,000 entrepreneurs," Dwi Larso said.

He expressed hope that the conference would support the development of innovation, entrepreneurship, and small businesses in Indonesia.

"Some 130 of 400 selected researchers from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Center Innovation, and Center of Entrepreneurship will present their scientific papers in the three-day conference," he said. (*)
