Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government should immediately find a solution to or a way-out of traffic congestion because it is now hampering investment, particularly in goods distribution, a chamber official said.
"Investors are suffering big losses due to delays in transportation of their goods to or from ports," chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) for communications affairs Chris Kanter said here.
Chris said goods dispatches from Jakarta`s industrial zones to Tanjung Priok port or the other way round needed hours before they could arrive at their destinations.
Because of traffic jams the dispatch of goods which could actually be done twice, could only be done once.
"Investors have not yet voiced their complaints but I am sure that some investors who had planned to operate in Indonesia eventually canceled their plans due to the traffic congestion," Kanter said.
He said that every year about 3,000 new motor vehicle documents (STNKs) were issued, both for four- and two-wheel vehicles, in Jakarta. Thus, the number of four-wheel vehicles totaled 90,000 units and two-wheel vehicles two million.
Kanter said the government should therefore speed up the operations of toll road access from industrial areas to Tanjung Priok port so that the flow of goods could be smoothed.
