VIVAnews - The trade between Indonesia and China from January until May this year is believed as causing Indonesia to book losses.

Chief of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Rusman Heriawan said the losses reached US$2.11 billion.

"We're suffering from losses in trade with China," said Rusman today.

Indonesia, he went on to say, mostly depend on exports from China as regards electronic products.

In addition, Indonesia did not earn profits in its trade with other countries such as Thailand (US$1.15 billion), Singapore (US$202.6 million) and Australia (US$738.1 million).

However, Rusman said that despite the losses, Indonesia's balance of trade by January-May still gained surplus at US$8.84 billion.

"The surplus at May was US$2.47 billion, while the total from January until May was US$8.84 billion," said Rusman.

The surplus was mainly obtained from Indonesia's trade with the United States at US$1.5 billion; South Korea at US$734.8 million; and other countries like UK, France, Germany, at small amount.
