Indonesia may become the major production base of athlete's shoes worldwide.
VIVAnews - Chief of the Capital Investment Coordinating Agency (BKPM) Gita Wirjawan said a number of foreign companies will move their production base to Indonesia. Gita said several representatives of the foreign investors have discussed the possibility with the government.
"They're weighing the chance to move to Indonesia," said Gita in the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy office yesterday, June 8.
Although he refused to name the interested companies, Gita said one of them is considered the Asia-based largest electronics company worldwide. The investment would likely touch the figure of billions of dollars.
In addition, an owner of a top world shoes company said footwear in Indonesia is really promising. The company is willing to invest in Indonesia, said Gita.
Gita cited investors saying Indonesia may become the major production base of athlete's shoes worldwide. Should the company relocate the factories in Vietnam and China, Indonesia will this year produce more than 300 million pairs of athlete's shoes.
