Indonesia's largest mobile phone operator PT Telkomsel has added about 2 million new users so far this year, a company official said, signaling growth of about 6% from yearend levels, Reuters reported on Tuesday (6/3/07).

Nirwan Lesmana, Telkomsel marketing general manager, said the company, controlled by state telecommunications firm PT Telkom, is optimistic it would attract 9.5 million new users this year.

"Currently we have 37 million users, up by about 2 million from 34.9 million last year," Lesmana said, adding that 95% of its customers were prepaid users. "With a 2 million increase in two months, we are optimistic that a target for net additional users of 9.5 million this year can be achieved, and hopefully we can exceed that."

Lesmana said the company expects the number of users industry wide would increase by 18 million this year.
