VIVAnews - The government is developing Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, into an internationally-standardized harbor. However, several numbers of challenges, such as the existence of irrelevant lands and properties owned by other institutions, are getting on the way.

“We know there are a lot of parties [involved], the customs, the military and the police. Then, there’s also a commitment [required] to make the area better, to make it function as a harbor with international standard,” Transportation Minister Freddy Numberi said after attending the Tanjung Priok Management meeting at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 22.

The government will also form a coordination team under the lead of Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Rajasa. The team will consist of Finance Minister, the Chief of Military, the Navy Chief of Staff, and the Indonesian Police Chief. “Basically all kinds of commitment,” Numberi said.

The minister also said the team would be formed to communicate any objection arising from the re-arrangement. “How it will be done, how long it will take, it’s all on the road map”.

Meantime, Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo pointed out that the government was currently preparing a dry port to support the plan. The port is planned to be located in Cikarang, West Java.

“That means the facilities will be like the ones in ports, but located in an industrial center. The dry port is meant for banking transactions, customs or anything else that can be conducted at a factory or industrial center,” Martowardojo said.

Therefore, the documentation process can be done at Cikarang Dry Port. “Afterwards, the containers can go straight to Tanjung Priok without having to deal with document clearing because it’s all been done at the dry port, “ the former Bank Mandiri President Director said.
