Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Minister for Cooperatives and Small-and-Medium Scale Enterprises Suryadharma Ali said that all parties should try to prevent Indonesia from being flooded by smuggled goods as it would harm the interest of small-and medium-sized businesses.
"A very important thing for Indonesia is that its markets should not flooded by smuggled goods which would affect small and medium businesses in the country," the minister said here on Wednesday.
The minister made the remarks after opening the 3rd Conference of ASEAN-China People-to-People Friendship Organizations.
He was of the view that in the current era of openness and globalization, Indonesia was not free from the potentials of being flooded by imported goods.
Thus, it was difficult for Indonesia to avoid the flood of goods from other countries.
"Ultimately, competition is something unavoidable. The gates for the entry or exit of goods from and to countries in the era of globalized world are now wide open. So, what is important for Indonesia is not to let itself be flooded by smuggled products," Ali said.
The minister said the illegal goods would cripple small and medium businesses` products at home. "But it is just acceptable for goods coming into the country through legal processes," he added.(*)
