TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The government program to support products produced by local industry is considered ineffective as it does not encourage local consumption.
The Indonesian Machine and Tool Industry Association (ASIMPI) chairman, Dasep Ahmadi, said that the implementation of the program had not been maximum.
“This is because there is no cooperation yet among departments,” he said yesterday (16/7).
Dasep explained that the presidential decree No.2/2009 about local products usage would not be effective if it is only released to the market mechanism.
“We ask for departments to have more serious discussions about it,” he suggested.
Dasep said that every department should evaluate their local products to find out their needs and contents.
“They have to learn the product's contents. How much of these are made from local product and how much are still imported,” he said.
ASIMPI urged the Coordinating Minister of the Economy to apply aggressive and real steps.
“They can invite Trade Department and others to sit together,” said Dasep.
