Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked local businessmen to invest at home rather than abroad.
"I ask businessmen in the country to invest at home instead of abroad," the president said at a cermony marking the laying of the first corner stone of a modest apartment building at Pulo Gebang in East Jakarta on Thursday.
The president said capital was certainly no respecter of "nationalilty" but when the government was working hard to develop the nation, local businessmen should also have a commitment to investing at home to develop their own country.
Yodhoyono also asked busisness makers, especially local investors and developers, to support the government`s efforts in realizing the construction of modest apartment buidings for middle-lower-income people in urban areas.
"The government is working hard to improve the investment climate and the real sector in the country. Therefore, let us work together to develop our nation ," Yudhoyono said.
He added that the government had given incentives to the business sector in a bid to encourage them to develop modest apartment buildings with low value-added tax (PPN) and reasonable prices.
The government also give subsidy to low-income people so that they could buy apartments on affordable instalments.
The inauguration also marked the commencement of similar apartment building projects in 9 other cities, namely Surabaya, Semarang, Bandung, Batam, Medan, Padang, Palembang, Makassar and Banjarmasin.
On the occasion, Yudhoyono was accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, Vice President Jusuf Kalla and several cabinet ministers among others Coordinating Minister for Economy Boediono, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Widodo AS, and Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Aburizal Bakrie.
Also present on the occasion were State Minister for Public Housing M Yusuf Asy`ari, Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto, Defense Minister Juwono Sudarsono, State Minister for State Enterprises Sugiharto, Social Affairs Minister Bachtiar Chamsyah, Sports Minister Adyaksa Dault, Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso, National Defense Forces (TNI) Chief Marshal Djoko Suyanto and People`s Consultative Asselmbly (MPR) Chairman Hidayat Nurwahid.(*)
