Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked district administration chiefs across the country to improve the quality of regional autonomy.

Speaking at a function to open the 3rd national conference of the All-Indonesia Association of District Administrations APKASI) at the State Palace here on Wednesday, the president said the quality of regional autonomy should be improved so that it could have a positive impact on regional development in various sectors.

"All district heads should engage in efforts to improve the quality of regional autonomy and have a commitment to developing good governance," the president said.

The head of state stressed that districts could play an important role in improving the quality of regional autonomy by giving the best possible service to the local communities.

"District administrations should also be able to regulate their regions and give better service to the public, including business makers," Yudhoyono said.

He said district heads should not make things complicated for investors intending to invest in their regions. They should also avoid high-cost-economy practices which would only make investors lose their interest in investing in the regions concerned.

According to the president, district heads` performance could be measured through the realization of good public service.

The main agenda of the 3rd APKASI national conference was revising the association`s statute and organizational rules in addition to electing an executive board for the 2009-2013 period.
