TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: State Electricity Company announced that power supply in Batam, Riau Islands Province to be cut for three days during the maintenance work on the Grissik pipeline.
Black out to start on May 23rd to May 25 2009, but the state company said to provide a limited amount of power during the power cut for several institutions including the police, state water company, immigration office, Batam Developmnet Authority Hospital, Batu Aji Regional State Hospital, and several media offices.
State company to generate 77 megawatt of electricity using marine fuel to keep small part of the city alive although 150.000 household consumer to be left without electricity during the maintenace work.
Technical Manager of the state electricity company in Batam, Bambang Hurip said the city needs 42 mmbtu of gas per day and supply is to be cut completely from 23 to 25 May.
However State Gas Company said gas supply to Singapore from the Grissik exploration site in Jambi will not be disrupted.
Regional administration regretted the cut. Syamsul Bahrum Administration Assistant of the Batam Regional Administration said he was furious by the cut which he said had occurred several times in the past and demanded compensation for the cut.
Director General of Electricity and Energy Jacobus Purwono said on Tuesday the government has demanded Conocophillips to speed up the regular maintenance work to 1.5 days.
