TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: PT Natrindo Telepon Seluler has prepared US$200 million or around Rp1.8 trillion for building the third generation cellular phone network (3G) in Jakarta. Kusnadi Sukarja, Natrindo Telepon Seluler's President Director, said 400 units of Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) will be constructed.
“We are waiting for permission for the tower construction license from the Jakarta Governor,” said Kusnasi today (28/7). In order to build the network, Natrindo has cooperated with three multinational information technology companies: Ericsson Indonesia and Huawei Technologies as BTS builders and LogicaCMG as telecommunication solution provider.
The amount is a preliminary investment which is estimated to be adequate for launching Natrindo's 3G service to the public. The total of Natrindo's capital spending to develop a 3G network reaches US1 billion, which is expected to come to the break even point in five years.
Kusnadi is optimistic that Natrindo may attract customers. The reason is that other cellular operators that hold 3G license have not yet had clear marketing. “In the future, we'll do more pointed segmentation,” he said.
