M`sia promotes SME`s products to Indonesia


Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Malaysia promotes its products mostly processed food in the "Taste of Malaysia exhibition" held from September 8 through 21 at 16 Giant hypermarket outlets here.

"Being neighboring countries, Indonesia and Malaysia have established close trade relations for many years," Malaysia`s minister of internal trade and consumer affairs Dato Hj Mohd. Shafie bin Hj Apdal, said when he opened the exhibition here Friday.

He hoped the promotion marked the beginning of a long term and mutually beneficial cooperation between two countries` businessmen and strengthen their trade relations.

During the expo, 40 Malaysian small and medium enterprises will hold a business matching forum with Indonesian partners on Sept 9.

Besides processed food like crakers, biscuits and sauces, they also promoted health and beauty products.

Based on recent statistics, Malaysia exported food products worth 600 million ringgits to Indonesia. Its total exports to Indonesia in 2005 reached 12.579 billion ringgits and its imports from Indonesia reached 16.6 billion ringgits.(*)
