TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Luxembourg’s Economy and Foreign Trade Minister Jeannot Krecke said the country is looking at the possibility of investing in and cooperating with industries in Indonesia. “We are looking at investment possibilities,” he said following a meeting with Industry Minister Fahmi Idris yesterday.

He said Luxembourg excelled in the sectors of steel industry, logistics and financial services. Krecke, however, could not yet reveal the value of investment being considered. “We are still looking for opportunities,” he said.

Krecke is also scheduled to meet with Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani and Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari.

Anshari Bukhari, the director general of Metal, Machinery, Textile and Diverse Industries said Minister Fahmi asked Luxembourg to invest in the pharmacy and agro-business sectors, like rubber. “These are two sectors which are growing rapidly in Indonesia,” he said.

Anshari is not worried that Luxembourg’s investment plans may be impeded by Health Minister Regulation No. 1010/MENKES/PER/XI/2008 on drug registration. The regulation dated November 3, 2008 says pharmaceutical companies without distribution facilities may not register their companies. “Luxembourg wants to build a plant here, and not just sell drugs, so it will not be subject to the regulation,” Anshari said.

Earlier, 13 international pharmaceutical companies were in danger of being affected by the Health Ministry’s regulation. They are PT Roche Indonesia, Sanofi Aventis Pasteur, PT Transfarma Medica-Indah, PT Eli Liliy, PT Wyeth Indonesia, PT Sterling, PT Astrzeneca Indonesia, PT Novo Nordisk Indonesia, PT Astellas Pharma Indonesia, PT Janssen Cilag, PT Solvay Pharma Indonesia, PT Merck Sharp & Dohme Indonesia, and PT Servier Indonesia.
