Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) for Monetary and Fiscal Committee, Bambang Soesatyo said efforts must be made to increase the absorption capacity of domestic market in facing the impact of global economic crisis.
"In the current economic crisis conditions we have to give priority to increasing the absorption capacity of domestic market," he said here on Tuesday.
He said that all business makers, including those grouped in the Kadin agreed that all had to encourage the development of industry and boost production at home.
Bambang said a number of incentives new being offered were not yet able to generate the development of the real sector effectively.
He said that not all of the incentives --such as import duty reduction, cuts in a number of taxes, fiscal strategies, trade financing and layoff prevention-- were relevant with the problems being faced by the real sector.
"So far, we have been trivializing domestic market which has a total consumers of almost 230 million," Bambang said.
He said that the government in 2009 should design incentives which were more focused on the strengthening of the people`s purchasing power and increasing service and good production cost efficiency. (*)
