Medan (ANTARA News) - In the view of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Indonesian society is still permissive in its attidude toward corruption cases happening in the national capital and the regions, a KPK official said.
"Our people are still permissive. When they know a certain official is involved in corruption, they tend to take it lightly and loathe to take any action," a KPK official, Adi Setyo Tamtomo, said in a dialogue with cadres of the People`s Information Center of North Sumatra in Medan Saturday.
Due to the people`s permissive attitude, the KPK and other law-enforcing agencies were often confronted with obstacles in combating corruption, he said.
Yet , KPK will not be able to combat corruption without the help of all components of the nation, the public in general, Tamtomo said.
Pursuant to Law No 31/1999 on eradication of corruption , it will be easy for the people to have their rights quaranteed in order to improve preventive effectivity and eradication of corruption.
"In articles 41 and 42 of the law, it is said that the people have the right to seek, get, give information and services on alleged corruption committed by law enforcers handling corruption cases.
The people have the right to get answers over the questions on the report they gave to law enforces not later than 30 days.
Though the law on eradication of corruption had almost reached the age of 10 years, the people still showed a permissive and apathatic attitude toward corruption , he said. (*)
