Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s rubber exports this year will likely amount to 2.4 bln usd helped by strong demand and higher prices, Bisnis Indonesia reported citing an official at the Indonesia rubber association.

The report did not gave a comparative figure for last year.

Association vice chairman Asril Sutan Amir was quoted as saying that in the first two months of the year rubber exports rose by 20 pct year-on-year to 300 mln usd.

Rising rubber consumption by China, India, Japan and the US may lift world demand by 3.2 pct to 21.3 mln tons this year, Bisnis said quoting a report from the trade ministry.

It said next year world demand is estimated to rise to 22.64 mln tons.

Meanwhile rubber output in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand has declined due to unfavorable weather conditions and will not return to normal levels until the second half of this year, the newspaper said.(*)
