ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand free trade agreement gives other advantages to Indonesia.

VIVAnews - Trough bilateral agreement with Australia, the government aims mining service imports from Australia. This cooperation is the continuance from the free trade agreement between ASEAN, Australia, and New Zealand.

"Experts labor imports from Australia to Indonesia in mining will potentially increase the Indonesia mining products' quality," said one of the analyst team members of the ASEAN plus Australia and New Zealand free trade agreement, Philip Purnama, on a press conference of the negotiation result of the 14th ASEAN Summit at the Trade Department office in Jakarta on Wednesday, Feb. 25.

In addition, Australia also agreed to give training and certification for welding workers, especially for oil and gas pipes.

The Trade Minister, Mari Elka Pangestu, said that the bilateral agreement with Australia and New Zealand has also enclosed an agreement point on mining service.

According to Pangestu, several additional advantages from Australia are, among others, facilitating working visa issue for a number of professions, capacity development of Indonesian automotive industry, food product certification, and supplying English teachers to 17 industrial vocational schools and colleges for two years.

Pangestu also stated that New Zealand offers some additional advantages that will be bilaterally discussed and materialised, some of which are vacation scheme facility for 100 Indonesian workers, working opportunity for 100 chefs, 20 halal butchers, and 20 Bahasa Indonesia teaching assistants.

"New Zealand also offers Master's degree scholarship for Agricultural Department, funding for cattle and milk farming project, and the possibility to increase contribution through the World Bank for aiding small and medium enterprises (UKM) in East Indonesia," said Pangestu.
