Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) was interested in financing micro, small and medium scale businesses in North Sumatra and Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam provinces after its regional director had visited the Shariah Fair and UMKM Bazaar held on Jan 14 through Feb 4 here, a spokesman said.
"Ahmed S. Hariri, director of IDB Regional Office in Kuala Lumpur has expressed his interests to finance the businesses when he visited the fair," Romeo Rissal, head of the Bank Indonesia office said here.
He hoped the IDB participation could be realized soon so UMKM roles in the provinces to push local and national economies became bigger.
According to him, the fair and bazaar initiated by the BI office, Medan administration and North Sumatra Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) here served as a springboard to increase UMKM bussinessmen's active roles in a development process.
"UMKM has roles to solve poverty and unemployment which can be seen by the absorbstion of manpower and its turnover in the fair," he said. (*)
