Honda to boost motorcycle production in SE Asia

Tokyo (ANTARA News) - Honda Motor Co Ltd plans to boost production of 100cc- to 150cc-class motorcycles in Southeast Asia and South America to raise global sales to 18 mln units by 2010, up some 50 pct from 2005, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, without citing sources.

In Vietnam, Honda will raise the output capacity of its plant in Vinh
Phuc Province to 850,000 units within the year from 760,000 currently, the business daily said. In 2007, it will invest about 3 bln yen and boost the capacity to 1 mln units.

In Indonesia, Honda is studying hiking annual output capacity further
after having raised it by 1 mln units to 3 mln last year.

In Brazil, the company will boost production capacity at its plant in
Manaus from 1 mln to 1.3 mln in two years, with the option to raise it
further to 1.5 mln units. The expansion cost is estimated to reach 3 bln yen, the report said. (*)
