Govt says Exxon's Natuna D-Alpha contract has expired

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Exxon Mobil Corp's contract at the Natuna D-Alpha oil and gas block has expired, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said.

Yusgiantoro told reporters last night that this was because Exxon had not submitted to the regulator a plan for developing the block and selling the gas.

"So the contract was automatically terminated," Yusgiantoro was quoted by XFN-Asia as saying.

He said Exxon had mistakenly thought the contract had been extended until 2009.

Yusgiantoro said state oil and gas firm PT Pertamina might now be first in line to operate the block.

ExxonMobil had 76 pct of Natuna D-Alpha and PT Pertamina the rest. (*)
