Balikpapan, E Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said national economic development was not only aimed at achieving growth.
"Since the beginning our wish has been to achieve equal distribution, balance and fairness," the president said here on Monday, the second day of a three-day official visit in East Kalimantan since Sunday (June 15).
Thus, he said, equal distribution, balance and fairness were the three pillars of economic development and had been stipulated as the strategy of development itself.
"This strategy will create welfare for the people, increase job opportunities and reduce poverty," he said.
In regard with growth and equal distribution, the government was obliged to build infrastructure across the country, he said.
"If infrastructure facilities such as roads, piers, ports and agriculture are adequately provided, provincial economic activities will develop well and fairly," the president said, adding that better infrastructure facilities would also indirectly improve socio-cultural and security conditions.(*)
