TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Ease of doing business in Indonesia is showing an increase compared to previous years.
The latest report of the World Bank and the International Finance Company entitled “Doing Business 2008” says that out of the 178 countries that were surveyed, ease of doing business in Indonesia is in 123rd place, an improvement compared to the previous position of 135th last year.
The two international institutions viewed that investor protection in Indonesia continues to improve and information to obtain credit is easier.
Despite improving, Indonesia’s rank is still left far behind compared to the ease of doing business in neighboring countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and even Sri Lanka.
Generally, ease of doing business in Singapore is considered as the best.
Two years consecutively since 2006, Singapore has managed to be in first place.
The ranking was in on 10 indicators: initiating a business, ease in obtaining a license, manpower, ownership registration, obtaining credit, investor protection, tax payment, cross-country trade, contract certainty and closing down of businesses.
