Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Dutch businessmen are seeking to cooperate in renewable and sustainable energy development particularly biodiesel, geothermal energy as well as water management, visiting Dutch minister of economy, Maria van der Houven, said here on Monday.
"In my visit here this time I brought a delegation of around 30 businessmen involving in water and energy sectors. We`ll see whether there will be an oportunity to cooperate in the renewable and envorinmentally-friendly energy development," she said.
She said the Netherlands had technology that could be applied in Indonesia while the Indonesian water-linked problems were also faced by the Netherlands.
"I am in this context playing a middleman to match the Dutch businessmen and their Indonesian partners. Who knows it will be useful for Indonesia," she said.
She admitted that the Dutch businessmen had to understand the country`s culture if they wished to do business in the country. "I will encourage them to study Indonesia well including the religion held by the majority of its population," she said.
The same also applies to Indonesian businessmen who wish to do business with their Dutch partners.
She said in the 21st century it was that small- and mid-sized businesses that would be needed and not government protection.
"Present industries must be self-sufficient and tough and not rely on the government protection," she said.
While in the country she would visit Surabaya to observe a training program given by a former Dutch manager for small businessmen. "I want to see the implementation of the program because according to me it is interesting and important," she said.(*)
