Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Customs and Excises Directorate General is continuously reforming itself in order to optimize state revenue, its chief said.

"We have been continuously implementing bureaucratic reform since 2007, and we do it systematically. We revitalize our organization by improving work systems, procedures and human resources," Customs and Excises Director General Thomas Sugijata said at a press conference here Friday.

Under the reform program, 17 customs and excises offices had been revitalized by, among other things, using modern information technology to improve performance.

With the support of the modern equipment, the 17 offices had managed to meet 95 percent of their revenue targets.

To facilitate trading activity, the Customs and Excises office had installed a National Single Window (NSW) system for imports at five major seaports and airport, namely Tanjung Priok (Jakarta), Tanjung Perak (Surabaya, East Java Province), Soekarno-Hatta (Tangerang, Banten), Belawan (Medan, North Sumatra), and Tanjung Emas (Semarang, Central Java).

The National Single Window (NSW) system for exports was also introduced in Tanjung Perak, Tanjung Emas, and Belawan.

The directorate general was now planning to establish an integrated service area or dryport in Cikarang (Bekasi, West Java) to ensure the smooth and efficient handling of the flow of goods late this year at the latest, he said.

The office would also apply a Customs Advance Trade System (CATS) which was now at a stage of pre-operation preparations.(*)
