Beijing (ANTARA News) - China will become an important and strategic country for Indonesia, which has become apparent in view of the fact that many Indonesian high-ranking government officials had been visiting China to expand cooperation in many sectors.
"China has become an important and strategic country for Indonesia, and likewise, China sees Indonesia as having a strategic significance," Indonesian Ambassador to China Sudrajat said during an introductory meeting with Indonesian embassy personnel in Beijing on Thursday.
He said that one of the indications that China is important to Indonesia is the planned visit of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to Beijing on October 24 and 25, 2008. Actually, the President has already visited China several times, which is an indication that China is important and strategic for Indonesia.
Another situation in which China is now under the spotlight of the world community, Sudrajat said, is the Olympics which will be held there from August 8 to 24, 2008.
He also said that with the growing importance of China as a country to be seriously reckoned with by Indonesia in particular, and the world in general, the Indonesian embassy in Beijing needs to promote its professionalism in performing its tasks.
He said the tasks of the Indonesian embassy are carrying out instructions form Jakarta, and to take iniatiatives by each of the embassy personnel themselves.
In this context, he told the diplomats to visit various regions in China to explore cooperation prospects with Indonesia.
"If I receive a report that a given diplomat of the embassy is very rarely visiting other parts of China, and merely sitting behind his or her office desk, he or she had better go home to Indonesia," he said. (*)
