TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:PT Bukit Asam yesterday signed a long-term coal transportation agreement with state-owned railway company PTKA. The agreement included additional transport capacity from 10 million tons to 20 million tons per year for Tanjung Enim South Sumatera - Tarahan, Lampung route, and from 2 million tons to 2,7 million tons per year for the Tanjung Enim-Kertapati South Sumatera route. “We hope to achieve the additional capacity within five years,” said PTKA CEO, Ignasius Jonan.


To fulfill the additional capacity required, PTKA will order around 50 new locomotives and 1.000 compartments. The company will also add new rail tracks at the station. PTKA has targeted around Rp 1,5 trillion increase in profit from Bukit Asam to Rp 2,5 trillion per year.
