TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Bank Indonesia (BI) is optimistic that the rupiah exchange rate will improve and be stable next year at the level of between 9,000 and 9,200 per US dollar. “The rupiah will be stable at this range. BI is comfortable enough with this level and the confidence to take hold of the rupiah will be stronger,” said Senior Deputy Governor of BI Miranda Goeltom yesterday (11/23).
According to him, the stability of the rupiah is supported by the larger surplus of balance of payments, enough yield, decreasing risk as well as less pressure from the US interest rate's increase.
“Inflation is also low,” he said. BI has estimated that next year, the inflation rate will be of around 5-7 percent. “The biggest component of inflation, that of price that the government regulates , such as oil-based fuel, has gone.”
